Costs & Financial Aid
The UW Online MPH is a self-sustaining, fee-based program administered by the UW Department of Health Systems and Population Health in the UW School of Public Health (SPH), in collaboration with UW Continuum College.
Costs
Course fees are charged on a per-credit basis and are the same for Washington state resident students and nonresident students. In addition to course fees, students pay other required fees each quarter, including registration, technology and U-PASS fees. Payment is due by the third Friday of the quarter.

Financial Aid and Other Funding
Students in the Online MPH program can apply for various forms of financial aid to help cover their educational costs, including federal financial aid, work study and loans. If contacting the Office of Student Financial Aid, it’s helpful to share that you’re inquiring about a fee-based program. Fee-based students are not eligible for tuition exemptions or University grants.
The Graduate Funding Information Service (GFIS) assists UW graduate students in their search for funding opportunities for graduate school-related expenses. GFIS representatives host workshops, post funding announcements and meet one-on-one with students.
Some employers will cover all or part of the cost of a professional education. Check with your employer to see if such a program is available.

HSEED Award
The Health Services Excellence, Equity and Distinction (HSEED) Award recognizes incoming students for their outstanding academic merit, diversity of experiences and backgrounds, and potential for leadership in public health. This award offers $5,000 to one incoming Online MPH student, distributed over a nine-month period. For eligibility criteria, see the HSEED Award website. The HSEED Award application is located within the Online MPH program application for admission (SOPHAS).
Northwest Public Health Training Center Stipends
The Northwest Public Health Training Center has funding to support students completing practice-based projects in public health organizations in Washington, Alaska, Idaho and Oregon. Stipends are distributed directly to students and are intended to help them defray living expenses during their hands-on training experience. For information on how to apply, see the award website.
Public Health Leadership Promise Award
The Public Health Leadership Promise Award recognizes students who've shown potential for leadership in public health and a commitment to serving others through their studies as well as life, work or volunteer experience. The award offers $3,000 to incoming Online MPH students in one lump sum during their quarter of entry to the program. The Public Health Leadership Promise Award application is located within the Online MPH program application for admission (SOPHAS). Recipients will be notified at the time they receive their admissions decision if they've been selected as an award recipient.
UW Office of Fellowships and Awards
The UW Office of Fellowships and Awards supports UW students in finding and applying for fellowships. A full range of fellowship opportunities are available on their website, and staff are eager to talk with you to determine which programs best meet your professional and personal goals.

UW SPH Master’s Fellowship Awards
The UW School of Public Heath offers up to six Master’s Fellowship Awards a year to incoming master’s level students. Awards are $10,000 per year for two years and are designed to help attract and retain students with diverse experiences and perspectives. For information on how to apply, see the fellowship website.
Funding for Research-Related Travel Costs
The Online MPH program has some funding to support current students with travel-related costs if they are accepted to present their research at a conference. Contact program staff for details.
